all those consumer level digicams have their advantage and disadvantage. Based on the skill of photography, you can either make good pictures with everyone of them, or make bad ones with them.
I chose the sony when it came out first due to its build-in anti-shake, so i dont have to spend money on those expensive anti-shake-telelenses, as i like to take picture outside with tele. second it lies better in my hands. But the model is a little outdated, i also tried the newer alpha 350 one, which is ofc better than the alpha 100 of mine.
As far as i know, canon make better pictures in low light environment. The sony alpha is quite noisy in dark environment and has less good noise reduction on ISO 400 and higher.
nikon is very user friendly, but never used it much to give you more info on them.
Just go to a shop, try out which suits you best in the hand, and take it, thats what i did.
